Working with Angelica was one of the most important things we did to prepare for our baby. In addition to her calm, supportive and assertive presence in the delivery room – including advocacy that likely prevented some nasty perineal tearing – her work with us before and after delivery made us feel much more comfortable and prepared to be new parents.

Among other things, Angelica gave us a list for our registry (spot on; we've used everything), shared a nuanced perspective on our hospital's approach to labor and delivery, took a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to her advice, and helped us settle in a few days after bringing our baby home. Talking through the labor and delivery experience a few days after discharge was also extremely helpful.  I encountered a number of people who were still processing their delivery experience years later, and being able to have an in-depth discussion gave me a sense of closure. (Even though I had a positive and uneventful delivery, having a baby is a lot!)

I'm so grateful that Angelica was part of our journey to becoming parents. She made the process of preparing to have a baby much less stressful for me and my husband, and took the pressure off of both of us when I went into labor. I would recommend her to anyone.

We hold the deepest gratitude, love, trust and respect for Angelica. We simply cannot imagine a version of our homebirth story without her; her guidance and support; her knowledge and expertise; her warmth, kindness, and light-hearted nature were monumental for our safe and healing physiological birth at home. We are first time parents; Angelica educated us, listened to us, honored our needs and desires for our birth plan and she kept us completely at ease with every necessary pivot when our labour paved its own course, as labour tends to do. My husband and I have a close personal relationship with my OB-GYN and maintaining the sacredness of that relationship was important to us. Angelica understood that from the beginning and was incredibly respectful of and attentive to that relationship. In fact, our OB-GYN has now referred multiple patients to her!

As first time parents, we had so many questions about the pregnancy and delivery process. Angelica was responsive and available to answer any questions. When we encountered some unexpected challenges in the pregnancy, she made sure to check in and provided us with information to help inform our decision-making.

I’m a first time mom over 40 who delivered vaginally, and without a doubt, the one decision that made the largest positive impact on my labor and delivery experience (and the months leading up to those days), was the decision to work with Angelica as our doula. Angelica is simply wonderful - knowledgeable, warm, and practical in the best way. I knew I wanted to work with a doula not only to support myself through the birth process, but so that my partner would have support throughout labor as well. Angelica went above and beyond in this respect, and I could rest easy knowing that during labor my partner was in communication with her, first via phone during early labor, and then of course in the room, where Angelica’s presence brought calm and reassurance. Also important to me, she worked seamlessly alongside my OB and hospital team, and at the same time was able to deploy gentle, measured advocacy on our behalf during key moments. In fact, her advocacy in those moments had a very real impact on achieving our birth preferences. The number one priority, of course, is feeling cared for when you are at your most vulnerable, and this informs everything about Angelica’s practice, which is also clearly a calling. We are eternally grateful. Thank you Angelica!

Angelica brought so much knowledge, warmth, empathy, and confidence to my birth experience

I interviewed almost a dozen doulas before deciding to work with Angelica. She immediately stood out from other doulas because of her vast knowledge, ability to communicate that knowledge in an accessible way, and her warm confidence that she could help me have a positive birth experience. She listened intently to my previous birth experiences, understood how I would like my second experience to be different, and immediately had numerous tips and ideas that made me feel confident she could support me in my birth preferences. Angelica was always the first person I called after my prenatal appointments to help me process the information and emotions that came up. As a person with chronic mental health issues, I can say that she was the doula I felt most comfortable sharing my mental health challenges with and she was always able to respond appropriately and with empathy, which is not something I can say about other doulas and health care providers.

When Angelica walked into my hospital room during labor, I immediately experienced a wave of relief. She provided so much comfort through soothing massage, verbal encouragement, communicating with medical staff, and supporting my partner. Most importantly she helped me listen to and trust my body throughout labor and postpartum. When my baby needed to be taken immediately to the NICU she advocated for me to have a few minutes of skin to skin which was such a gift and something that I would never have thought to advocate for myself. Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better birth partner, cheerleader, support system, and advocate; Angelica brought so much knowledge, warmth, empathy, and confidence to my birth experience and I'm so grateful to have worked with her.

Turning a difficult situation Into a successful, positive and even magical experience

My husband and I worked with Angelica for our first pregnancy and had an incredible experience. We originally planned a natural birth together, but I ended up requiring a c-section at 39 weeks. Angelica’s support and guidance during this time was incredibly helpful and made a difficult situation successful – and into something positive and even magical. Her knowledge and support along the way helped us make informed decisions that we felt comfortable with.

Angelica was there as soon as my baby was born to help with first latch, and was warm and caring the entire time. I can not stress enough how helpful and loving her presence was at every part of our experience. Angelica also helped with breastfeeding postpartum and gave me the most gentle and successful advice I received to ensure my baby was properly latching.

Angelica was extremely respectful of our wishes while being incredibly knowledgeable and caring. I can not recommend her enough and hiring her was one of the best decisions we made.

An invaluable asset to an unexpected induction

If anyone is considering hiring a doula, I'd like to recommend Angelica Kennedy. She's a fellow Sunnyside mom, and a recently certified doula. Her care and services were an invaluable asset to my unexpected induction.

I was supposed to be induced on January 22nd (BP issues) but was induced on January 10th (for same issues). It was 45 hours of labor that ended in a c-section. Angelica guided me over the phone for the first 17 or so hours when we were still expecting a vaginal birth, and was at the hospital in less than an hour once things got serious. Throughout the whole process, she asked thoughtful questions of both the doctors and myself to try to keep us to the original birth plan because she knew how important it was to me. When the plans started to dramatically shift for medical reasons (and I and my husband weren't ready to accept) she guided us to making the best decision for both my and my baby's health. She also worked with me through breathing, laboring, and soothing techniques when the times got tough. She stayed with us at the hospital for over 24 hours and didn't rush us to make any decision. She stayed during and after the c-section to make sure I was ok even though she couldn't meet the baby.

If you're on the fence, I encourage you to have a conversation with Angelica. Both my husband and I agreed the process would've been much more difficult without her help.
